Exploring Data

  • When you have more than one Measure in the Data list, a "Values" item will appear in your Row or Column list. You can re-position this item to tell Eureka how you would like your Measures to be placed relative to your Dimensions in your rows and columns.
  • By default Eureka includes a Total or "All" item for each Dimension included in a view. You can remove this item or any other individual category item by clicking on the drop-down arrow on the Dimension item in the View and deselecting the checkbox.
  • You can filter your data by multiple criteria by adding Dimension items to the Filters list. The filters allow multiple selections within each dimension as well. (i.e. you could filter your data to summarize against multiple states at once).
  • Change the presentation of your data by simply clicking on the Current View icon in the application bar and choosing between Pivot, Bar, Column, Line, Pie and Area.
  • Eureka defaults to summing Measures in a view. You can change the aggregation by clicking on the drop-down arrow on a Measure item and selecting SUM, AVERAGE, MINIMUM, or MAXIMUM. You can also have to different aggregations of the same Measure by dragging and dropping the Measure into the Data list a second time and choosing a new aggregation.
  • To sort your data, click on the drop-down arrow on a row or column that you want to sort by within the pivot table. You can sort on both rows and columns at the same time (provided you have just one data item). When you have multiple items in your row or column list you can control which dimensions get sorted individually. Sorts will also be preserved from view to view as long as the sort metric still exists.

Interactive Drilling

  • You can drill down on a particular row or column of data in your pivot table by simply clicking the drop-down arrow on the row or column header and navigating to the "Drill Down" menu item and choosing the dimension you want to Drill To.
  • To Drill down on a data item in a chart, double click on any chart item to get the Drill Down menu, and choose the Dimension you would like to drill to.
  • For all drill downs, the view will update immediately. To drill back 'up', simply use the back button on your browser to return to the previous view.
  • To Drill Through a cell in the pivot table to retrieve the underlying data, just double click on a cell.

Eureka Metadata

Eureka inspects the loaded data and intelligently partitions the columns into two types: Dimensions and Measures.

  • Dimensions are the categorical items with which you slice and filter.
  • Measures are the numeric items you want to aggregate and summarize (i.e. sum, minimum, maximum, average).
Sometimes you actually want a numeric column to be used as a Dimension (category). For instance, there may be an Customer Account Number column that is numeric, but you want to be able to slice and filter with it. Simply drag and drop the item from the Measures list to the Dimensions list. Eureka will adjust accordingly and remember your preference from then on.

Refreshing Data

To refresh your views with new data from the underlying spreadsheet, simply click on the Spreadsheet Icon over the Dimensions list.
